Glenn Ridsdale - Embracing hockey

Updated: Nov 16, 2023

As a hockey parent Glenn Ridsdale has attended many hockey matches to support his daughter Beth over a number of years.

In autumn last year he decided to give it a go himself by joining the BACK to HOCKEY sessions at Fylde Hockey club. These are weekly 1 hour sessions for those that have either never played hockey or those who haven’t played for a while. Glenn really enjoyed trying the new skill and a sport that brought out his competitive side!

During the summer he was confident enough to join the clubs masters squad in the North West 500 competition. Following the match he said: Thanks to everyone who dragged me in to hockey. So inclusive and so enjoyable. You gave me my first ever hockey games at 61 years old. Priceless. And all your positive comments mean more than a win.

He is now considering playing regular competitive hockey for the Men’s second team. Glenn has also recently taken up umpiring. He completed his level 1 online course and has gained practical experience during the summer mixed 7aside at Mill Farm and the masters competitions. He is looking to become qualified ahead of the new season at the Armitage centre in early September.

If you are thinking about playing hockey or taking up umpiring get in touch.
