Leeds L1 0 - 0 Fylde L1
Vitality Women's Conference North Fylde started off strongly with 90% of possession of the ball in the opposition’s half. With many attacks down the right-hand side of the pitch and circle entries by Hattie Madden they were unlucky to come away with any goals. After ending the first quarter with top intensity and a team chat with some excellent pointers to give more opportunities, Fylde went back out gunning for a goal. They made a lot of chances down both the right and left channels through double transfers by Lucy Woods and balls crossed through the line to goal channel to the top of the D, however they struggled to get any goals past them. Two penalty corners were awarded through good wins by Pru Lindsey but they were unsuccessful. Playing a university side meant that they were very physical and as a result lots of green cards were awarded. After half time Fylde proceeded to stick to their game plan and play around the opposition players by being patient and not forcing the ball. A few yellow cards were awarded to both teams which meant Fylde being extra careful in their play and Vicky Rukin led very well to make sure they switched to defensive when one person down. With the score still being 0-0 in the last quarter it took all grit from the team to get a goal. Fylde stretched the pitch in both height and width and won a penalty corner, Izzie Milbourn took a dragflick which hit their number one runner on the foot, the second penalty corner didn’t quite go to plan, however Beth Cosgrove recovered it but still no goal. The game finished 0-0. Fylde were very disappointed not to come away with a win nevertheless the team played amazingly and now know the areas to improve on in order to win the league, currently sitting in 3rd place.
