Away wins for the Ladies 1's & 2's.
Bowdon 2 0-2 Fylde 1
After last week's disappointing performance, Fylde 1st team were looking to get back to winning ways away at Bowdon. Having conceded 5 goals in the last two games, Fylde were also looking to tighten up their structure and try and keep a clean sheet.
The game started with Fylde dominating possession, this ended in a penalty corner which was converted by Flor Zapulla at the end of the first quarter. Fylde continued to push for another goal, and it was another well executed penalty corner, scored by captain Victoria Rukin that brought the second goal for Fylde.
Bowdon created very little to threaten the Fylde goal and the game ended 2-0 to Fylde. An excellent team performance, with player of the match going to Jess Wharton for her excellent work in the forward line.
Lymm 1 0-3 Fylde 2
This week an amazing victory against Lymm. We came straight out of the blocks at full pace and excellent press and the forwards skilfully picked up balls high up the pitch at speed which gave Fylde an advantage.
We quickly scored all of our goals within 15 minutes of the game with our first brilliant goal by Keira Tomes. Lymm were totally taken by surprise, and we then took our second goal again by Keira Tomes who out the goal straight past Lymm’s keeper. Fylde were dominating and Isabelle Mahon scored our third goal brilliantly, through key help from our defence to our midfield to pass to Isabelle to take a goal.
In the second half, Lymm were on the attack, but Michelle Longton and the defence kept it tight throughout, with some key saves from Michelle in penalty corners. We secured our very deserving win with 3-0.
Wigton 1 3-2 Fylde 3
It was a glorious day up in Cumbria as Fylde make their longest trip of the season to top of the league Wigton. Fylde had 13 players with Heather & Fran stepping in as subs!
Fylde started out really strong, pressing high and making some very good attacking opportunities. However Wigton showed their experience up front and slotted away a goal fairly quickly, this didn’t knock the young sides confidence and they kept their heads high.
After fighting through the first half, Fylde managed to equalise about 10 minutes before the half term, this came from a brilliant dribble past 3 of Wigton's defenders from Anna Vavoso. The score was 1-1 going into half time where the team talked about the positives of their performance but also how they could improve in the second half.
Fylde continued to try to transfer the ball round the back of the pitch which worked well. A couple of mistakes lead to Wigton being able to attack and put us under pressure. The defence held strong throughout but Wigton managed to score 2 more goals.
Just as Fylde thought it was coming to an end, the determination from the whole team lead to a break through again as we scored our second goal in the 67th minute from Anna Vavoso yet again.
Unfortunately time ran out and Fylde did not have a chance to equalise. However we take this away as a good performance against a very strong side and we will continue to work on how we can improve in training. Player of the match was awarded to Sophie Slawson.
Leyland & Chorley 1 5-4 Fylde 4
The game began with Leyland and Chorley dominating possession, and they wasted no time putting Fylde under pressure as they struggled to find their rhythm early on. Leyland and Chorley struck three times in quick succession, with three goals from open play.
Fylde, however, refused to let their heads drop. As the first half drew to a close, they began to string together some promising moves. In the 35th minute, Fylde won a short corner, giving them a chance to pull one back before the break. Caroline Bell stepped up and delivered a powerful shot, sending the ball into the back of the net for and giving Fylde hope going into halftime with the score at 3-1.
In the second half, Fylde came out with renewed energy, they applied heavy pressure on the Leyland and Chorley defence, and it wasn’t long before they were rewarded. A brilliant counter-attack led to a second goal from Sophia Melling.
Leyland and Chorley responded with a goal of their own, making the score 4-2, but Fylde were far from done. Hollie Guthrie received the ball in the D and had a shot on target which resulted in yet another goal for Fylde at 4-3.
The game reached a frantic pace, Fylde continued to battle winning a final goal to equalise at 4-4 from Isla Carter running down the right side, hitting the baseline and paying it into the back of the net.
Unfortunately for Fylde, Leyland and Chorley scored within the last 10 minutes of the game making the final result 5-4. Fylde are beginning to gel as a team now and hopefully we will get the win in the next match!
Fylde 1 4-6 South Lakes 1
Fylde Men had the worst possible start in their home game to South Lakes, conceding two goals in less than five minutes, and on the verge of being 3 goals down before a late umpiring decision to disallow a short corner goal.
The team started to rally and gain some composure on the ball, although it was South Lakes who extended their lead to 3-0 with a smart short corner routine. Injuries were picked up by Pete Latimer from a ball hitting his elbow but he was only temporarily off the pitch, whereas the ball to thumb for Luke Hitchen stopped this key player from any more action on the pitch.
Fylde eventually managed to score before half-time after some great solo work from Martin Hayes beating the goalkeeper, but needing Jay Mayne to dive and knock the ball into the goal.
Fylde felt they were still in the game at half-time, with only a 2 goal gap, but needed to play more intelligently and cut out their mistakes. Unfortunately an early short corner was conceded with South Lakes scoring and 3 goals once again split the teams.
The second half was an even affair with both sides creating chances and there were goals aplenty. Fylde scored next, again by Jay Mayne from a Martin Hayes cross, but the opposition scored again from a direct strike at the top of the D.
Charlie Oliver had a lot of attacks down the right wing and from one of these he crossed through a crowded D, and the ball was untouched until it reached the far post, where Phil Hope was waiting and knocked it in for a goal. With 5 minutes left, another Charlie Oliver cross saw Jay Mayne pounce to score his hat-trick, and suddenly Fylde were just one goal behind at 4-5.
Before any final minute dramatics, South Lakes won a short corner, and had a carbon-copy slip to the right for another well-drilled goal, and secure their two goal advantage. Jay Mayne hit the crossbar before the final whistle, but no more goals, and Fylde were left ruing those two goals they conceded at the start of the match.
An improved performance, particularly in the second half. The vote for Man of the Match was close with Martin Hayes just pipping Charlie Oliver.
